With all the messing around, the ECU may have 'learnt' the wrong setting. Quickest/easiest way to get it to learn again is to simply-. Switch ignition on and wait 1 minute, Switch ignition off and wait 1 minute, Start engine and leave to warm up. After that it should have learnt the position it needs to be in.

if removing the lead with engine running makes no difference on that clyinder, and you know that the plug and lead are definately fine and sparkign, then the only possible problems are a head gasket leak on that cylinder (common on a 1.2) or an injector fault on that cylinder (very rare on the 1.2).

Once removed, remove the sliding metal retaining clip around the cable where it enters the housing. Pop off the ball socket joint and follow the cable down. Undo the plastic clip which holds the cables to the car. Remove the metal retaining clip on the gearbox end. Pop off the gearbox ball socket joint and retrieve the cable. Replace in reverse.
