Posted October 15, 2022. Glow plugs are to assist starting when very cold. They are used when they are not essential, it helps start quicker and smoother on warm up and better for emission output whilst warming up. Most cars in our climate can still be used with no glowplugs ( but rougher starting and more emissions) .

pin 1 comes from the is the the switched ignition 15 and feeds to the switching side of the relay pin 2 goes to K4 on the pcm and is the switch earth to activate the relay. pin 3 is the main switched feed in to the glow plug relay pin 5 feed the glowplugs (when relay active) also talks back to the pcm via fuse 28 and a4 on the plug of the pcm.
Disconnect the power to the glow plug relay and try another fuse. If the fuse holds, then you'll know it's somewhere between the relay and the glowplugs. You probably have a bad spot in the wiring that is grounding out. Reply Like. # 3. 11-09-2003, 11:56 PM.

The glow plugs are controled by the PCM (powertrain control module)it behind the left front wheel, remove the wheel arch liner and the pcm cover. it will have to be programed by ford if you replace itif you think that this is the problem with your car then the best thing to do is take it ford for reprograming or replacement .. the glow plug relay for this model is located in the fuse box under the bonnet on the left hand side of the engine bay (passenger side). The relay is the second one up next to fuses 18,23 & 26.Check fuses 6,28 & 35 in this fuse box as these are the power fuses for the glow plugs & control circuit.
